Why Should I Track My Online Marketing Campaigns?

We all know that knowledge is power. That is why tracking your online traffic is important. The better you understand your traffic the better you will be able to understand your audience. The better you understand your audience the better will be able to cater to them and change your marketing campaigns to get more of the right traffic.

Here are a few ways you can track your campaigns.

1. Sign Up for Google Analytics

Google Analytics is a free tool provided by the biggest search engine in the world to help website owners see the traffic their website is getting. The tool is fairly simple to use and Google even has a free course in Google Skillshop to help website owners understand how Google analytics can be used effectively.

Google Analytics shows you where the people that are reaching your website are searching from (country), what age they are (if Google ads is connected), their gender (if Google ads are connected), actions taken on a website, where your traffic is coming from (social media platforms, paid ads, organic, direct etc.), and the total amount of traffic.

To use this tool you will have to:

  • Have a website
  • Have a gmail account
  • Install the google analytics code or a plugin that connects to Google analytics (depends on your website)

Once Google Analytics is set up you will be able to see and download your reports on the Google Analytics dashboard.

2. Third Party Software

Other ways to track your overall online analytics include third-party software like Zoho Analytics, Jira, Semrush, and others.

Software like this makes it easy to see all your data in one place in a very clean manner. However, the downside to using this software is that you do have to pay a monthly/yearly amount in order to use their services.

3. Social Media Analytics Dashboard

If your business uses social media, you can always check your stats by going into your business analytics dashboard within each app. Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, and most other social media accounts allow you to use the dashboard in your profile is set to be a business page.

Although it might not be ideal to go into each app separately to check your analytics it is the most inexpensive way to see your posts' performance.

Advanced tracking software isn't necessary for every business, but if you are noticing a dramatic change in traffic or online customer interactions then tracking will most likely show you what is going on behind the scenes.
